Trump has communicated with special counsel Robert Mueller even though publicly he’s called the investigation into Russia meddling in the 2016 presidential election a ‘witch hunt.’ Why would he contact Mueller, you ask? OK, you didn’t ask but we’ll tell you. The former reality show star who is totally not unhinged sent Mueller private messages of “appreciation.”

“He appreciates what Bob Mueller is doing,” Trump’s personal lawyer John Dowd told USA TODAY in an interview Tuesday. “He asked me to share that with him and that’s what I’ve done.”

Mueller is leading the investigation into any possible ties between the Trump campaign and Russia and that probe has expanded to financial ties.

Dowd said that Trump “has sent messages back and forth” but he declined to clarify and added that any possibility of the current occupant of the White House trying to fire Mueller has “never been on the table, never.”

“We get along well with Bob Mueller; our communications have been constructive,” Dowd said. “But it is important that our communications remain confidential. It’s important that there not be any breakdown in that trust.”

Dowd did not elaborate as to whether Mr. Mueller returned any communications with Trump. But, we’re sure he’s taking notes. Former FBI Director James Comey took meticulous notes of his encounters with Trump.

Meanwhile, on Twitter, Trump has repeatedly lashed out at media sources reporting on the investigation. The former reality show star has repeatedly called the Russia scandal a “hoax.” However, it appears that privately he’s basically patting Mueller on the back for a job well done. That begs the question as to whether Trump ever really wanted to be President of this country. It’s like the job fell in his lap unexpectedly so now, perhaps, just maybe, he wants a way out. He may not be thinking too clearly, though. One or more of his family members could end up doing time in prison. If not, some of his associates will if Watergate is any standard of justice. As you’ll recall, though, Richard Nixon never went to prison, however, many of his associates did.
